The Merrimack Valley Regional Innovation Grant Strategic Plan

Welcome to MVRIG

Through a Regional Innovation Grant (RIG) awarded by the US Department of Labor, the Greater Lowell Workforce Investment Board, in collaboration with its partners, the Merrimack Valley Workforce Investment Board and Southern New Hampshire Workforce Opportunity Council, is working on an initiative to support the sustainability of our regional manufacturing industry.

Regional Assets include State Departments, the US Department of Labor, Manufacturing Extension Partnerships, State Workforce and Economic Development Cabinets, Economic Development and Planning Agencies.

The workforce development divisions of each sate (Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development) oversee federal and state –funded grant programs, including training funds (the Workforce Training Fund in Massachusetts and the New Hampshire Job Training Fund).

Maximize Your Job Search through JobQuest and NHWorks

Job seekers are encouraged to maximize their job search through Job Quest – an integrated online job system for employers and job seekers made available through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) and the NHWorks Job Match System provided by the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development, Office of Workforce Opportunity. Combined with local Career Centers in Massachusetts and NH Works Centers job-seekers have access to an array of resources to help expedite their job search.

There is a solid foundation of training and development resources available to support manufacturing in the Merrimack Valley Region including: public vocational-technical high schools, two and four-year colleges; community-based and nonprofit education and training providers as well as resources of the public workforce system.

The Regional Innovation Grant (RIG) is designed to align workforce and economic development resources and to address the economic impact of a continued decline in the traditional manufacturing industry and support the vitality and continued growth of new manufacturing employment opportunities within the Merrimack Valley Region. The Asset Map Report and Regional Strategic Plan will be used to provide a framework to accomplish this task.
